Melissa Stover – Psychiatric Service Dog
Melissa Stover
Hello. My name is Melissa. As a young child, I went through many events causing lasting trauma. I suffer from night terrors, flashbacks, episodes of dissociation. During college, I was diagnosed with PTSD and realized that I needed help, so I sought it out from a therapist and psychiatrist. At 26 something still didn’t feel right. My therapist recommended me to get tested for Autism Spectrum Disorder. When I received my ASD diagnosis, I understood so much more about myself. After deliberation with my therapist and psychiatrist, we all agreed that a service dog would be a significant next step in my treatment. A service dog’s tasks would include helping to ground me when anxious, providing space between myself and others, waking me up from night terrors, and many other things. Any donations received would be greatly appreciated. I can’t wait to start my service dog journey to living a less anxious and more independent life with your help!
